A Meets are held Saturday mornings for five consecutive weeks. A Meets begin promptly at 9:00 am and usually are finished by 11:30am. Swimmers qualify for these meets based on their times at Time Trials and at B Meets, as well as the coaches' evaluation of how the team can best match up against our opponent for that week. A Meets differ from B Meets in that they are NVSL scored meets and are used for standings in our Division.

The swimmers scheduled for A Meets may change from week to week, due to swimmer improved times or absences. Our team will field 3 swimmers for each event in each age group at A Meets. A swimmer can only swim in two individual events at an A Meet. We make every attempt to field 3 swimmers in each event for each age group. Relay events are competed at the end of A Meets. A swimmer should always find out if he/she is swimming in one of the relays and plan to stay at the pool until the end of the meet. Swimmers should notify their coaches prior to leaving a meet.

Parents of participating A Meet swimmers will be sent an email every Wednesday/Thursday.

It is requested that at the beginning of the season, you Accept or Decline each A meet listed under the Swim Meets tab in the Events section of our homepage. This is not guaranteeing your swimmer will be swimming at an A meet. It indicates to the coaches that your swimmer will be in town and available to swim if they are one the the qualifying swimmers. Knowing who is available before seeding is extremely helpful to our coaches and streamlines the process. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

If you are scheduled to swim in an A Meet and you become ill or have an emergency, contact the coach immediately so that they will have enough time to substitute another swimmer. Any corrections or adjustments need to be made by Thursday when our information is transmitted to the other team.

Warm-ups start at 8:00am for home meets and 8:15am for away meets. Please make sure you are on time for warm-ups and check in with the coaches when you arrive to avoid being scratched from your event.

For away A Meets, we meet at the FME Pool , parking along Viking Drive to caravan as a team to the opposing team’s pool. Departure time will vary depending on travel time, traffic, and start time for the meet.Details will be provided in A Meet email notifications to parents.

MEET SHEETS

While all NVSL meets have an announcer, many people find that the best way to follow the meet is with a meet sheet. The meet sheet, lists all of the events and swimmers.

SCORING

The score is kept at A Meets for the NVSL. In the individual events, a first place finish earns 5 points for the team, a second place scores 3 points and a third place finish scores 1 point. We make every attempt to field 3 swimmers in each event for each age group. Sometimes, we may ask a younger swimmer to compete in an older group to fill an empty lane. Every point counts in A Meets!

Relay events are swum at the end of A Meets and receive 5 points for a win. A swimmer should always find out if he/she is swimming in one of the relays and plan to stay at the pool until the end of the meet. Swimmers should notify their coaches prior to leaving a meet.
